Responsibilities

The Regional Director of School Based Medical Services (RDSBMS) works closely with the School Based Health leadership team in supporting providers and the clinical operations of School Based Medical Services.   The RDSMS works as an advocate for the school based medical providers and a liaison between providers,  the School Based and CHC leadership teams in addition to the school/district administrative teams.

 

Administrative responsibilities:

  • Reviewing timesheets and approving time off requests
  • Coordinating and rolling out on-site quality improvement activities including patient/parent/ stakeholder satisfaction surveys
  • Working with the department leadership staff to achieve high quality of care including but not limited to monitoring of compliance requirements and intervention involving Human Resources personnel as needed.
  • Monitor/maintain and work toward expected productivity for team
  • Meet Monthly with school based leadership team
  • Active participation in recruitment and onboarding of new hires
  • Conducting annual performance appraisals to individuals assigned
  • At least monthly meeting with Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Chief Nursing Officer (CNO)
  • Monitoring “days worked” to ensure providers meet contracted requirements of 195 days (.85 contracts)
  • Facilitate monthly School Based APRN meetings

 

The RDSBMS, in consultation and with the support of the School Based Health leadership team, School Based Medical Advisor and Chief Medical Officer of CHC, works to address and correct any problems with clinical performance that are identified.  The RDSBMS works collaboratively with the ancillary staff to achieve the aim of providing safe and effective clinical services and works closely with the Chief Nursing Officer to develop, train and monitor compliance with CHC role-based competencies.

 

Qualifications, Appointment and Term of Service:  Any member of the School Based medical staff of the Community Health Center in good standing for a minimum of one year is eligible for appointment as a RDSBMS.   The School Based Medical Advisor and The Director of School Based Health Services of CHC will review the performance of the RDSBMS on a periodic basis, no less than biannually.  Either party may terminate the assignment, without cause, with three months’ notice.

 

 

Functions of the Regional Director of School Based Medical Services:

 

Together with the School Based Health leadership team provides clinical support, training and assessment of clinical staff of the assigned region and provides ongoing clinical patient care. The RDSBMS will work with the School Based Medical Advisor in clinical supervision including:

 

  • Clinical orientation of new clinicians to the site (or assign a designee)
  • Completion of 90 day probationary and six-month evaluations for new clinicians
  • Working with the department leadership staff to achieve high quality of care including but not limited to monitoring of compliance requirements and intervention involving Human Resources personnel as needed.
  • Insure all Annual clinical competencies for all SBHC APRNs
  • Facilitate the completion of Peer Review

 

 

Reviews clinical outcome metrics for their department and takes responsibility, working with the School Based Medical Advisor, CHC on-site Medical Directors and the Chief Medical Officer of CHC, to identify and achieve clinical outcome goals. 

 

Provides leadership and supervision in developing and carrying out medical quality assurance activities at the sites; both specific to the site and in collaboration with the appropriate committees of CHC.

Ensures that the medical SBHC staff (providers, MAs) adhere to all policies and procedures necessary for CHC to obtain on-going licensure by the Connecticut DPH and certification by Joint Commission and other compliance and regulatory agencies.

 

 

Works with the School Based leadership team in development of site-specific strategic plans for new services and programs and modifications of existing services.

 

Meets regularly with School Based leadership team at least monthly with the members of CHC leadership to discuss both agency-wide and department-specific issues.

 

Provides guidance and leadership in identification and resolution of problems/barriers that impede effective and efficient quality patient care.
