Maintains smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination with network administrators. Primary responsibilities include managing backup and restore, anti-virus systems, hard drive encryption, Microsoft security patching and third party software patching, Microsoft Exchange and external spam service.  Active Directory management and maintenance including account creation and group policy development and deployment.  Interacts with users and the rest of the IT team. Documentation skills are critical to the successful candidate.  Team work and a drive to take responsibility for the maintenance and security of the networks are also critical traits.



  • Maintain Microsoft Windows servers in a Domain environment
  • Manage a virtualized server infrastructure
  • Support Microsoft network administration duties, including Active Directory, Group Policy Objects, DNS
  • Perform software and security updates and other system configuration tasks to ensure the health and availability of servers
  • Lead IT systems projects and high priority efforts
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose server performance problems
  • Provide phone-based and user-facing technical support
  • Document administrative procedures and configurations
  • Prepare system documentation and other technical documents
  • Perform and plan ongoing maintenance tasks on production Windows servers
  • Work independently or as a member of a team on complex tasks
  • Install and configure computer software on servers and workstations
  • Investigate, resolve and explain system issues to both technical and non-technical people


Qualifications & Requirements:

  • AS minimum requirement / Bachelors preferred
  • Must demonstrate flexibility with client and meet demanding deadlines
  • Demonstrated competency in technical problem solving
  • Experience with VMWare Virtualization products (Server, ESX)
  • Experience with remote software deployment technologies
  • Working experience deploying and administering Windows2008/2012 servers
  • Experience performing server backups
  • Experience providing infrastructure support activities including: Active Directory administration, Group Policy Object creation / troubleshooting, DNS support
  • Experience configuring and applying security settings to servers and workstations
  • Experience with automated operating system deployment technologies
  • Must be detail oriented, highly organized, motivated, and a self-starter
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple projects, deadlines and responsibilities
  • Excellent and well founded, written and oral communication skills are absolutely essential
  • Proven track record of ability to install, patch and troubleshoot Windows operating systems
  • Experience supporting LAN/WAN networking technologies


Preferred Skills

  • Possession of a current CompTIA Security+ Certification desired
  • Experience with DoD security certification and accreditation through the DIACAP process is highly preferred.
  • Networking experience with Firewalls, Switches, VPN, SSL, OCSP, Load Balancers, HIDS/NIDS and simulators is highly desirable.
  • HBSS experience
  • User-facing technical support background


Physical / Work Environment:

Works primarily in a moderately sedentary environment. Physical effort generally involves occasional walking between building sites and frequent travel to all locations.
