    Responsibilities

     

     

    The Research Scientist is a doctoral-prepared health care research professional who conducts independent research in alignment with the mission and vision of the Weitzman Institute. The position is also expected to support and contribute to the work of the Institute by assisting other staff with their research projects and providing education and mentoring to junior staff and students. The position will be responsible for securing funding to support independent research through management of existing projects and obtaining new grants and other funding sources for independent research.

     

     

    GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provide direct project management for one or several individual research projects
    • Provide content and support for Weitzman manuscript and grant preparation
    • Work with WI staff and outside collaborators to expand the research program through collaboration with other academic entities, and further development of internal CHCI and WI staff.
    • Work closely with the Associate Director for Research to identify opportunities for additional investigation within existing WI projects and initiatives
    • Lead regular, recurring, cross disciplinary research team meeting   
    • Work closely with the Associate Director for Research to coordinate research staff assignments and allocations
    • Provide support and mentoring to students and WI research staff to help in developing their research interests and capabilities.

     

     REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

     

    • Formal Education & Certification: PhD/doctoral degree in a related discipline and at least two years public health research experience

     

    • Knowledge & Experience:

     

        • Proven experience and expertise in conducting independent research.
        • Strong analytical and writing skills,   
        • Experience with grant preparation and manuscript preparation

    PHYSICAL EFFORT/ENVIRONMENT

    Works primarily in a moderately sedentary environment. Physical effort generally involves occasional walking between building sites and frequent travel to all locations.

     

    WORK SCHEDULE DEMANDS

                Flexible, full time at 40 hours per week.
